NEET forms create confusion among students

NEET forms create confusion among students 8-Dec-2012
Hyderabad,Dec 8 The confusion created by the government’s inability to clarify what entrance exams students must sit for, is the last thing students anxious about their performance, need.

Students still do not know whether the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Neet) is applicable to Andhra Pradesh or not for admission to MBBS and BDS courses from the 2013-14 academic year.

The online application process started by the CBSE from December 1 has further fueled confusion among students, parents and teachers.

There are many columns in the online application form that students cannot comprehend. They are clueless whether they have to fill those columns or not, or whether to specify ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. It is no use looking to teachers or the government for answers as, ironically, they, too, know nothing.

The government maintains that it cannot clarify anything about Neet at this stage since the case is pending in the Supreme Court, though the AP High Court has stayed Neet in AP earlier. As a precautionary measure, the government has advised students to submit applications for Neet. AP kids face never-ending woes Students don't know if Neet applicable to Andhra Pradesh or not Several columns in the CBSE's online form have also left them confused The column pertaining to `choice of seats' in the CBSE's online application form has been giving students in AP a tough time. It asks students from AP and Jammu and Kashmir who have opted for seats under the 15 per cent All-India Quota, to submit an affidavit.

However, AP is not part of the 15 per cent All India Quota created under a Presidential Order for local and non-local reservations. Officials say the question of 15 per cent quota does not arise at all in case of AP students.

The application also specifies an `Overseas Citizenship of India' (OCI) quota. However, in AP there is no OCI or NRI quota. There is only 40 per cent management quota as of now. However, in some states there is 15 per cent OCI/ NRI quota.

Medical education minister Kondru Murali and principal secretary Ratna Kishore refused to comment on this issue saying that the matter is prejudiced and the government can clarify only after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on whether to exempt some states from NEET. Though the Supreme Court orders were expected on Friday, officials said they have not received any communication to this effect till now.
